Can you imagine getting into a food fight with the King of Pop? For iHeartRadio's JoJo Wright, he doesn't have use his imagination because he actually lived it.
In honor of National Radio Day on August 20, the radio personality and host of iHeartKPOP with JoJo reflected on some of the most memorable moments of his career, including getting into a "cake fight" with none other than Michael Jackson. Calling it a career "high point," and noting that the "Billie Jean" singer was one of the artists that changed his life, Wright recalled hosting a charity event at Jackson's Neverland Ranch years ago.
"I didn't think he was going to be there, I really didn't. I thought maybe he'd wave from a distance, maybe, but I didn't think he would actually show up," he said.
After calling up other special guests like former professional boxer Mike Tyson as well as the Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter and his younger brother Aaron Carter, Jackson himself joined the fray.
"Then it came time and they said, 'OK JoJo, Michael's gonna come up on the stage, if needs the mic, hand him the mic.' I'm like, wait Michael's coming here? Oh my God," he said.
Fans in the crowd were "going crazy" and the event presented Jackson with a cake as his birthday was in a few days. The superstar grabbed a handful of the cake and gave it to someone in the audience. This ultimately led to a "cake fight," which were reportedly a regular occurrence at Neverland.
"Michael turns to Nick and Aaron Carter... one thing leads to another and cake [is thrown] between them, it's going crazy," he said, adding that the legendary musician then turned his sights on him. "Then Michael Jackson turns, looks directly at me with a handful of cake and he pauses, and my guess is he was like 'maybe I shouldn't throw cake on this guy 'cause I don't know him.' What I said to him was something to the effect of, hit me, Michael. And then Michael hits me with cake! It was such a moment!"
Wright noted, however, that he "didn't throw cake on him, 'cause I'm not dumb."
