Dakota Johnson has a friend in the Queen of Pop.

In a new interview with E! News, the Materialists star revealed that she and Madonna have been friends for years after first meeting when she was a young girl and then again when they were going to work on a project together.

"I really love her. We've been, like, weird friends for a while," Johnson said, adding, "I met her when I was really young, because she did a movie with my stepfather and then I got to know her later because we were gonna work together on something."

Madonna starred in the 1996 film Evita opposite Antonio Banderas, who was married to Johnson's mother Melanie Griffith at the time. The former spouses tied the knot in 1996 and were together for years before splitting in 2015.

Though whatever project brought Johnson and Madonna back in each other's orbit didn't pan out, the Madame Web actress said the pair have still kept in touch.

"We've always kind of circled each other, but she is like an energy to be near that is so beautiful and so wild," she said. "It's just cool that she even wants to talk to me."

Johnson, who recently split from ex-fiancé and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, detailed her dating dealbreaker earlier this summer, calling the personal quality a non-negotiable. The "Vogue" singer, meanwhile, recently celebrated her 67th birthday with a "dream" Italian getaway, complete with colorful fireworks, dancing with friends and a giant pink Labubu cake.
