Gov. DeSantis Says 'TRUMP Act' Passed By Lawmakers May Be Unconstitutional

Governor DeSantis continues to blast Republican lawmakers for passing an illegal immigration bill that he calls weak.

He says it's "ridiculous" that state police and sheriffs would have to get permission from the Agriculture Commissioner before turning any illegal immigrants in to ICE.

"You've got to do a mother-may-I. Maybe this is unconstitutional. It's ridiculous. If there was a ridiculous clause in the Constitution, it would definitely be unconstitutional."

DeSantis vows to veto the legislation named the "TRUMP Act" once it's sent to his desk.

The governor held his latest roundtable on the subject in West Palm Beach this morning, where the FDLE commissioner called illegal immigration a "man-made disaster."

DeSantis tells lawmakers to get back to work and pass a plan that's consistent with what they campaigned on.

"If you campaigned for office saying you were gonna be tough on illegal immigration and a voter asked you 'what do you propose' and your answer was 'we're going to strip the governor of enforcement authority and transfer it to the department of agriculture'...if that's what you told voters you would do, God bless you!"

As to why Republicans passed the "TRUMP Act," State Rep. Mike Caruso says most legislators didn't have the time to read the whole thing. Caruso was the only Republican in the House of Representatives to vote against the bill. He said they had less than a half hour.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw was also a part of this event. You can hear what he had to say in the video or listen to local news on 1290 WJNO's The Brian Mudd Show tomorrow morning.
