Katy Perry is sharing the personal, heartfelt meaning behind the name of her upcoming album, which drops later this year.
The "Firework" singer announced earlier this week that her new album is called 143, and it was quickly discovered that the number has a unique meaning, with AirDroid.com noting that it was once widely used as a shorthand to say "I love you." Perry opened up in a recent radio interview about how the numeral helped her through some difficult experiences over the last few years, per People.
"It's my angel number. It's my symbol, it's my sign," she said. "A couple years ago, we were going through a little bit of a hard time medically in our family, and it was a little bit scary, and I started seeing 143 in many different ways, not just on the phone."
When Perry learned of the meaning behind 143, it brought her even more comfort as it was like a special message from her guiding angels.
"I really believe it was my angels, my guides, saying, 'I love you. We got you. We're going to protect you. You're exactly where you're meant to be. You're on the path,'" she said.
The former American Idol judge hopes her new music reflects the love she's felt in her fans as they listen to what she has to say in her new era, saying, "I do love the listener, and I want to give them the love that I've received as best as I possibly can and help invite them into this kind of love frequency."
On Thursday (July 11), Perry released the album's lead single, the "sexy" anthem "Woman's World," alongside a cheeky and vivid music video with major summer vibes.
143 drops September 20.
