US athlete Sam Watson is making waves in the world of speed climbing. Born and raised in Southlake, Texas, Watson has been passionate about climbing since he was five years old. His dedication to the sport has led him to break the world record twice in one tournament at the IFSC World Cup Wujiang 2024, with his best time clocked at a rapid 4.79 seconds. This record-breaking performance has established him as a new standard-bearer for men's speed climbing.

Watson's success continued at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023, where he won the men's speed climbing finals, securing his qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics. This will be his first Olympic Games experience.

Off the climbing wall, Watson enjoys playing chess and Mario Kart, and is a big fan of the San Antonio Spurs, particularly retired basketball star Manu Ginóbili. He also admires fellow climbers Aleksandra Miroslaw and Janja Garnbret for their consistent high-level performances. In addition to his athletic pursuits, Watson is currently learning Indonesian, a skill he finds useful when communicating with other climbers on the World Cup circuit.
