Rays Salvage Finale From Angels In Extras

The Tampa Bay Rays (19-13) defeated the Los Angeles Angels (21-12) 4-2 in ten innings on Wednesday evening in Anaheim. The win prevents the Angels from sweeping the Rays, who finish their West Coast swing with a record of 7-3.

Shane McClanahan was brilliant on the mound for the Rays, pitching seven shutout innings in which he allowed three hits while striking out eleven and walking one.

Kevin Kiermaier homered in the third, and the Rays added what appeared to be crucial insurance in the top of the eighth on a Yandy Diaz groundout to make it 2-0. However, Taylor Ward answered with a two-run bomb off Andrew Kittredge in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game 2-2, and the game would head to extra innings.

In the top of the tenth inning the Rays got a RBI double from Vidal Brujan and a RBI single from Harold Ramirez to take a 4-2 lead. Brooks Raley came in the bottom of the tenth and kept the Angels off the board to pick up his third save of the season.

The Rays are now off on Thursday and return home after the long road trip when they host the Toronto Blue Jays for a three game series this weekend. The first game of the series is scheduled for 7:10 PM Friday night - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher hosting the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
