Sophie Turner Credits Joe Jonas For Saving Her Life

2019 Vanity Fair Oscar Party Hosted By Radhika Jones - Arrivals

Sophie Turner has been opening up more and more about her struggles with depression and an eating disorder, admitting that she lost so much weight at one point that she stopped getting her Period. During a recent interview with the Sunday Times, the 23-year-old got even more candid about her issues, and how her husband Joe Jonas has helped save her life.

The Game of Thrones star explained that she met her beau at the age of 20, when she "was going through this phase of being very mentally unwell."

"He was, like, 'I can't be with you until you love yourself, I can't see you love me more than you love yourself,'" Turner said. "That was something, him doing that. I think he kind of saved my life, in a way."

The young actress began he role as Sansa Stark on the hit HBO show at the age of 15, and laments having her adolescence publicized in the way it was. "Suddenly, everyone's metabolism slows down at 17, 18 and then that's documented," she said. "My skin and everything. People commenting on it. I was too aware of my body at a young age. And it just kind of took over my mind, it was all I would think about. Calorie counting, everything. 'Oh, I'll just eat nuts today.' I stopped having my period for a year—that's when I decided to have therapy...I just think it's so important everyone should have a therapist, honestly."

With Game of Thrones coming to an end tonight (May 19), Turner will be able to start a new chapter in her life. In fact, that chapter started earlier this month when she and Jonas tied the knot during a surprise ceremony in Las Vegas.
