'American Idol' Contestant's Performance Brings Katy Perry To Tears: Watch

Katy Perry was a teary-eyed mess on American Idol.

Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon made the pop star cry for all the right reasons as he performed as one of the top 14 contestants on Sunday's episode (April 14). Harmon, who not only charmed America with his voice but also his heartfelt story about the difficulties with his parents since he came out as gay, shared some good news during last night.

"Me and my family are in a better place and things are looking up," he told the judges before launching into an emotional rendition of Elton John's sentimental 1975 ballad "We All Fall in Love Sometimes." Much to the Idol hopeful's surprise, Harmon's cover rendered a proud Perry to turn on the waterworks.

"I'm a mess a little bit. I'm just so proud. I'm just so glad, because you're such a gift. You're a light to the world," she said, wiping tears from her eyes. "Your story is everything, and your talent, it just like, supersedes all, and just, I mean, I'm so proud of you."

Born to a pastor and a religious family, Harmon has expressed that, despite their not initially accepting his sexuality, he says his family accepts him.

“I’ve never said that my parents have rejected me or don’t accept me as me, their son,” he told Out magazine, contrary to what's suggested on the show. “It’s not like they totally outcasted me. It’s just … I was living with my parents, and our differences caused me to decide to make an alternative living situation for myself. At the heart of it, we have our differences, but we still love each other no matter what.”
